KAWS x Alone Again
In discovering different artists and their work, one of my favorites to experience is KAWS and his character Companion. Companion’s Mickey silhouette and signature KAWS crossed out eyes has shown up in apparel collabs with Uniqlo and Dior, Yorkshire Sculpture park in the UK, and even as a massive inflatable floating thru Victoria Harbor in Hong Kong.
Companion left a lasting impression on Detroit last spring when the 17 foot tall “Waiting” appeared downtown facing south over Campus Martius. A year later the larger than life figure can be found again at the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit.
KAWS: Alone Again showcases five sculptures along with three paintings placed on MOCAD specific wall work created by the Brooklyn based artist. Alone Again will be on display through August 4, 2019.
